Gratitude Upon the Stone & Winter’s Arrival

It’s amazing how quickly warm weather fades, so it seems, when you change from wearing short sleeves to donning a coat and hat for the New England scene transforms each moment. Ah, the wonder of how dynamic nature is.

As we aim to roast the chestnuts by a fire, let us give thanks and gratitude to Mother Earth for carrying us on the journey together, at this time and place. How complex a thing when you think about the chances of us being here with one another at an exact point in time.

When walking along the brook line in the forest, I ponder the nature of our trees, the animals who make a home here, and the people who set foot in the same forests long ago. Magic lives in such places, especially when you have relics of the past literally sitting in front of you.

The great stones featured on our website reveal places where people perhaps gave gratitude for the safety and abundance of the land; maybe they whispered prayers upon the smaller stones as they carefully placed them upon larger ones, truly sacred spaces.

It is a remarkable and indescribable feeling to stand among these harbingers of hope and grace. We can hardly imagine what the world was like when incredible humans walked here, holding a place for peace and healing, community.

In honor of the strangeness of perception, when I write about the land and stare at the space it inhabits, I realize my own personal nature is odd, yet I have no apologies. This year was a true challenge. We lost so many loved ones, and to know your trees, elementals, and spirits of the land embrace you no matter how deep in grief you are is a gift not needing justification.

I feel love, guidance, and protection. I’m encouraged by an innate wisdom fitting this exact space, an extraordinary gift that honors the authentic spirit within, and I am not alone. Intuitive friends and even strangers have remarked the magical quality of the land we share with both seen and unseen forces creating its shape.

And as I now prepare to end this year, reflection and hope have also found their places. I am beyond grateful for the people who are supportive of my creative spirit and this new adventure here on WaywardElements.

What a phenomenal way to start something new. With loss there is also gain, the balance of life.

I am grateful for the gain.

With love,

Geraldine
