There is a moment, or a small collection of moments, when the sun and the warm breeze merge in a beautiful dance to create something I like to call “Field Trip Weather”.
No formal announcement, no ringing of the church bells, but a subtle note of hope when snow recedes and mud emerges as New England begins to thaw. Welcome back, dear Spring! (and yes, I will capitalize – it is that important to me). It makes me feel like a kid awaiting a yearly bus ride to the amusement park, brown bag in hand and a foil wrapped can of coke.
Spring is my absolute favorite season. The mud happens, but so does growth, newness, and the green sounds and sights of nature breathe life into us again after what was a real doozy of a winter. It was cold, snowed so much, and this brought us back to what felt like childhood in the 80s when we actually had snow over and over, but we were younger then and full of energy. In essence, this year we received what Mother Nature intended, and the growing things thank her for it. Our driveway may lead to another country if you stand in a hole long enough, but it shall heal too.

Looking forward to the great melt, a random 60+ degree day allows for the doors and windows to swing wide open! What joy there is when a house fills with that smell, field trip weather, the courier to our minds, bodies, and spirits announcing Spring break is around the corner, then before you know it, another school year is over and summer begins. As a teacher, I measured my life by school years. In a way, I still do. Yet as those old habits begin to fade, I relish in the sounds of birds returning, the day being longer, and the waking up of trees I now witness.
Spring’s magic does not end in the nature you see or hear; it is also about what we feel, our senses within. We are spirits in this human world, as many say, and our journeys are different, but perhaps Spring offers a feeling of collective comfort as we grow from the heart into what is best for us. This newness may not make the news, nor does it have to for it to be important.

Over the fall and winter, I searched my soul while composing channeled writings together in the form of 365 entries I chose out of over 500 (more now). Yes, I write and give gratitude through daily prayer and have found tremendous healing within it, and many writers will tell you the same. This portion of my life now is free from bells, grading, and more than I can ever express here. It took almost two decades to build those skills, habits, and patterns, and it will take more than two years to dismantle what no longer fits, even through writing each day.
But out of all this, something unexpected begins to grow. My own Spring season emerges now. The writing I do comes from a higher place, and though there is more to it than the simplicity of this statement, I completely trust it all. I trust my team in spirit, my ancestors, my soul tribe, the nature around me – whatever terms work – I trust.
And as I typed my work, I realized what the words planted and continue to plant. The passages have sown hope and love in me brand new, illuminating the path that went dark and silent for quite some time. The journey now is one filled with Spring air, rendered by opening up and surrendering all I thought I had to control and be in charge of. As a teacher, your whole inner and working dynamic is about control – anticipating mistakes, behavior management, problem-solving, gauging understanding, adjusting on the fly, and on and on and on…. It can be both fulfilling and draining. Either way, this is not my life anymore, and it is time to honor my own nature.
This Spring, I invite you to do the same, even in the smallest of ways. Perhaps try a new hobby or take up walking in nature. Give meditation a whirl – even five minutes can help set or close your whole day in a positive way. Whatever it is you have the courage to do, make it heart centered, make it feel good. Make it feel as if you’re going on that field trip, and build a trust within yourself and those in spirit who have you every step of the way.
Imagine what seeds you wish to plant in order to grow. I invite you to open the windows and the doors, take a cue from the nature around you, and bring in a freshness you may be surprised you need. Feel stuck, listen to birds! Tired or drained, hug a tree! Ungrounded and anxious, sit down on Mother Earth’s ground. Make the small changes and be amazed how these moments begin a shift, one you may not sense right away, but your soul knows exactly where the goodness goes, where that Spring breeze lands, and how to help you find your way to the pure love humans are meant to feel and be a part of as good beings.
Even on a rainy day, there are ways to bring in a grounding energy! Cook, bake, make something to allow in positive vibes, high vibration. Though I’m not a great baker (I love to cook), I do dabble from time to time, and it feels so good! And even if my soda bread was a bit bland, there is nothing butter can’t help:)
It’s all about the seeds, the nourishment, the energy you give into what you want to grow.
Grow with me in this heart space!
Be well 🙂
